| Description | The lecture explores the transformation of academic search in the era of generative AI. Participants will first gain an understanding of the differences between traditional database-based searching (Boolean logic, metadata, indexing) and AI-powered approaches (semantic search, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, conversational interfaces). The practical part walks through the scientific search pipeline — from formulating a research question to synthesizing the literature — and demonstrates where and how tools such as Perplexity, Scite, or Consensus enter this process. The session also includes a critical evaluation of AI tools: what they can genuinely do, where they fail (hallucinations, bias in training data, selective database coverage), and what specific risks they pose for the humanities. |
