Description The role of endoneurial extracellular matrix for regeneration and maturation regenerating motor axons can be study by using acellular nerve grafts prepared from muscular and cutaneous nerves, which are aplicated between stumps of served femoral nerve. The operated animals left to survive for one (n=8) and two (n=8) months. After one and two months, no significant differences were found in the number and diameters of motor axons which regenerated into the cutaneous nerve grafts, while significant increase of the axon numbers and diameters was counted in the motor grafts. The thickness of myelin sheaths of motor axons regenerated into the cutaneous and motor acellular grafts was very similar after one month. The myelin sheaths were significantly thinner in the motor axons regenerated into the motor graft after one than two months. Our results provide that, there are profitable conditions for maturation of regenerated motor axons in the acellular motor graft in its ECM components.
