Description The required properties of glassionomer cement as a bone cement are met by the material Ionocem (produced by Ionos Seefeld Co.). It proved useful in surgery of the middle ear for repair of the ossicles and as implantation material in defects of the cranium. In dentoalveolar surgery it can be used for retrograde occlusion of the root after resection of the cusp and as a filling of bone defect in the pariapical space. By combining its favorable binding qualities with bone and metal the authors use it both for osteosynthesis for fixation of bone splints instead of screws in areas not suited for fixation due to the gracility of bones, and for jaw implants, as well. The praparation of the cement and its packing makes sterile preparation incl. accurate dosage possible with a period of administration up to 7 minutes before setting.
