Description The study presents selected results of the empirical research on the creation of a maternal tie during the pregnancy. It is based or empirical material which was obtained by interviewing 825 women from Brno (ELSPAC study) in the third trimester of their pregnancy. The study tried to identify the intensity of the maternal tie of women to their unborn child using tool not been tested hitherto. The authors succeded in decsribing the intensity of the maternal tie in the investigated group. Morcover the authors verified the relative autonomy between conscious attitudes of pregnant women towards the child (planned, desired child) at the beginning of pergnancy and an emotionally regulated behaviour towards the child during pregnancy. Moreover, the relationship of cultural educational models of moterhood implemented by mothers of the investigated women in their childhood with the intensity of the maternal tie during the present pregnancy was proved.
