Description A 19F and 31P NMR study of diphosphoryl halides, P2O3X4, (X=F,Cl), revealed that both compounds partly dismutate to the corresponding phosphoryl and triphosphoryl halides, POX3 and P3O5X5, respectively. A presumption that P3O5X5 arise from the primary formed unstable halogenodioxophosphorane, PO2X, has been confirmed by reactions of P2O3X4 with aprotic nitrogen bases (B). In this case the coordinatively unsaturated PO2X is donor-stabilized and a betaine (B)PO2X is formed readily.
