Description Heart failure is a common syndrome with disabling symptoms and a poor prognosis. Cardiovascular pathologies such as hypertension and cerebrovascular disease, and heart diseases such as coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and heart failure, increase in incidence with increasing age. The symptoms and signs of heart failure are similar in young and elderly people, but non-specific presentation is more common in the elderly. The management of systolic heart failure in elderly patients, as in younger patients, involves the use of diuretics, vasodilators, and oxygen supplementation.
