Description The path of making it for the Roma on the political level leads through the representatives of the Roma community running on the ballots of political parties representing the majority population. Even though this option in principle leads to assimilation, in regards to the number of the Roma in Slovakia, the socio-demographic specifics and the high degree of occurrence of anomy, as well as the overall state of resignation of some Roma communities means that for the upcoming years the Roma will not be able to make it through Roma political parties. The political participation represents not only a challenge for the Roma–it is above all a challenge for the majority population. The majority population and its political representation should in a short period of time initiate and intensive discussion on how it envisages involving the Roma minority in the issues of public interest. The need for common solutions that would involve both the Roma and the non-Roma in the solution of the so-called Roma issue and building a multi-national and multi-cultural Slovakia requires – and in the future will increasingly more urgently require–the existence of a relevant Roma political representation.
