Description This volume demarcates the distinctly pederastic elements within a series of highly nuanced, Uranian texts. In the face of stringent opposition, these Uranians and their literary and aesthetic works established an eccentric positionality worthy of consideration - to further our understanding of Victorian sexuality and culture. Chapter one considers recent engagements of Gerard Manley Hopkins's eroticism; chapter two considers Hopkins's unique problematics; chapter three is a close reading of Hopkins's 'Epithalamion'; chapter four considers the pederastic pedagogy advocated by Walter Pater in 'Marius the Epicurean'; chapter five considers the breach between Pater and Oscar Wilde facilitated by Pater's review of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'. The conclusion considers the Uranian continuum stretching from William Johnson to Guy Davenport.
