| Description | The main concern of this article is to analyse the relation between representation of the past and the process of inclusion. The author uses concepts of social identity and inclusion by Jeffrey Alexander. Alexanders schema works with the relation between a core-group and out-group and stresses the meaning of the subjective feeling of inclusion. The point of departure of this article is that the core-group and out-group match with the identification positions which are socially re-produced. The article specifically deals with the process of the production of knowledge about these identification positions, namely the representation of the past, which plays an important role in this process. The author argues that stigmatization of the identification positions through representations of the past can lead to a creation of an unacceptable idenfication position and hence inhibit a complete inclusion. The issue is demonstrated on the case of Germanhood as a type of social identity in the context of the Czech republic. The object of the analysis is a life story of a woman identifying herself as German and a set of informal interviews and materials gathered within an etnographic research in one of the Czech German associacions. These materials stand for the sources of the representation of the past. The author shows that Germanhood is – in certain contexts – experienced as a stigmatized identification position. |
