Description After 12 week of Mutaflor (Eschericia coli Nissle) administration a normalisation of bowel bacterial flora and signicifant lowering of endotoxin level in 42th day patients suffering from liver cirrhosis were recognised. Bowel permeability test with lactulose and manitol was normal before medicament admonistration and in 42th resp. 84th day as well. For assesment of bacterial translocation in patients suffering from liver cirrhosis an investigation of endotoxin level looks more appropriste than lactulose/manitol permeability test. The lowering of endotoxin level can influence fibroproduction by lowering of cytokine stimulation which could have also a therapeutic effect.
