Description The microbial analysis of the Hranice abyss was focused on the cultivable psychrotrophic procaryotes inhabiting water and mantles forming specific speleothems in the water-filled part of the abyss walls. The aim of the work was to show a possible microbial influence on speleogenesis or formation speleothems through the isolation, characterization and identification of isolated strains. Altogether 80 strains of procaryotes were isolated. 79 strains were isolated from the aquatic ambient samples and one strain came from the guano sample. There were about 29.5% of psychrophilic strains from the aquatic ambient samples. As far as the mantle isolates are concerned there were 28 % of psychrophilic strains. The surprising fact was a dominance of gram-positive bacteria. The isolated cultures were identified as Aeromonas hydrophila (water), Aneurinibacillus sp. (water), Bacillus psychrophilus (water), Bacillus fusiformis (guano) a Bacillus sp. (mantles), Micrococcus sp. (water and mantles), Pseudomonas spp. (water and mantles) Staphylococcus sp. (water).
