| Description | Infection of pancreatic necrosis is the major cause of death in acute pankreatitis. Small bowel bacterial overgrowth and subsequent bacterial translocation are held resposible for the majority of these infection. Antibiotic prophylaxis has been studied in several trials. Well-designed placebo-controled trials failed to show a reduction of infectious complications. It is goal to investigate the use of prophylactic probiotics as na alternative strategy. |
