Description Gödel emphasised philosophy as an important tool in science. Much less is known about his religious background. We should bear in mind that our evaluational perspective differs very much from the one in which Gödel lived. He was personally sure that there must be another existence after death, an afterlife ("of unlimited life span"). As a "Baptized Lutheran" he did not include "Trinity" in his creed. He was also certain that mind is separate from matter. This text tries to include Libet's "readiness potential" into the debate concerning the specificity of the mind. Neither Gödel's identification of materialism with mechanism or his vision of the "spirit" are a viable solution of the problem.
