Description In the Czech Republic as well as in other countries of the European Union, the position of asylum seekers on the labour market is rather specific compared to other categories of migrants. Their stay on the territory of the Czech Republic is lawful however their access to the labour market is legally restricted. In the paper, the consequences of this restriction for the social inclusion of the asylum seekers is reflected in the context of the system of asylum seekers' reception. The regulation of the access to the labour market is studied from the perspective of the social actors who are mainly affected by the restrictions, thus the asylum seekers. The exclusion of the asylum seekers from the labour market is also reflected in the framework of the formation of migration policies and contemporary discourses on migration. Drawing on the empirical research we point to the strategy of participation on the irregular labour market that is used by the asylum seekers to deal with this restriction. It is suggested that current regulation of the asylum seekers' reception pose many barriers to their integration not only on the labour market but also in other social spheres and the consequences of these measures apparently affect also the recognized refugees.
