Description The first description of methicillin resistant isolate of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), within the context of the hospitalization of patients, was in early sixtieth in the Great Britain. At the end of ninetieth the occurrence of MRSA was described in common population in USA and in 2005 in farm animals in Holland. Nowadays the MRSA strains are starting to be monitor also in veterinary medicine, especially in food animals. The MRSA strains have been isolated from both pets (dogs, cats) and food animals (cattle, chickens, horses, pigs and rabbits) in the world. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) started to monitor MRSA in particular state members in pig breedings (following the decision of European Committee No. 55/2008). In our research project we detected some MRSA strains obtained from food animals, concretely from cow milk, goat and goat milk. The results from this study revealed that the occurrence of MRSA is still sporadic in the Czech Republic. All obtained isolates were genetically characterized in detail.
