Description We examined Ixodes ricinus ticks and mosquitoes (adults, larvae) of various species on the presence of spirochetes using DFM. Positive samples were examined for the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato DNA by PCR method. Ticks showed higher Bbsl positivity than mosquitoes. There was signifficant difference between positivity of DFM and PCR caused probably by different sensitivity and/or by the presence of other spirochetes. Two bacterial strains were isolated from Culex pipiens mosquito, one determined as Borrelia afzelii, one is unknown.
