Description The focus of the paper is centered on the popular as well as controversial concept of secularization as an analytical tool for academic study of religion in the context of modern societies. The author distinguishes between the concept of secularization, the secularization thesis, secularization theory, the secularization narrative and the secularization paradigm and emphasizes important differences between them. The question of applicability and analytical usefulness of them is also reflected.
