| Description | The presented study examines the effect of parental trust on body image dissatisfaction in the group of 465 of 13 year-old children from the longitudinal study ELSPAC (the European Study of Pregnancy and Childhood). The aim was to examine the influence of parental criticism on body image dissatisfaction when BMI and parental trust are taken into account. Three standardized self-report measures were administered: Parental Style Questionnaire; Body Criticism Scale; The Body Satisfaction Scale. Body Mass Index was calculated as a ratio of weight/height (kg/m2). The findings of this study suggest that body image dissatisfaction is affected by BMI and perceived parental trust. The quality of maternal relationship with adolescents, particularly, the perceived degree of trust and warmth, increases the adolescents satisfaction with his/her body. |
