Description The article deals with the depiction of Cupid in the De planctu Naturae by Alan of Lille and its connections with the representation of the ancient god of love in the preceding literary tradition. The author outlines the main features of the portrayal of Cupid (Amor) in Latin literature in antiquity and the Middle Ages and focuses on Cupid's characteristics in the fifth metre of Alan's prosimetrical composition. A translation of this part of the De planctu Naturae into Czech is included.
