Description Contribution Crimen maiestatis was presented at the Summer School of the Czechoslovak criminal law. It analyses the development of one institute of Ancient criminal law. Crimen maiestatis is one of the oldest crimes in Rome. It was known already during the Royal period and it developed expressively during the period of Roman Republic. Crimen maiestatis prosecutes different acts which involve many states of facts such as treason, communicating with the enemy, but also asking the augurs about the future of imperial family during the Imperial period. Its primary feature is the object of protection and it is represented by the king during the royal period and by Populus Romanus and his officials during the period of Republic. During the imperial period the state and its emperor are personalized and all acts against the emperor are prosecuted.
