Description The paper presents a dissertation research that is focused on the using of geoinformation technologies in geography teaching and its influence on learning and development of map skills. The research comes from the development of information technologies and its implementation into the teaching in schools, in this case into the geography teaching. The research is divided into two parts. Within the first part, the survey of a current state of geoinformation technologies used in geography teaching was elaborated. The South Moravian region was used as a model area. The second part is focused on the map skills development with the using of geoinformation technologies in geography teaching. The paper will present the results of the first part and with the approach to resolution and also research methods which are planned to be used in the second part of the research. The map skills are presented as the theoretical part of the research. Pupils at basic schools should be learned how to use these map skills.The disertation research is supported within the research project MUNI/41/098/2009, Evaluation of Selected Map Skills Development Within the Use of Geo-information Technologies in Geography Teaching at Basic School, that is financially supported in 2009 by the Faculty of Education, MU.
