Description After the disintegration of the Eastern block (1989) the whole area of the post-Soviet block was undergoing a transformation of their individual state sport organisations. Until 1989 the said organisations were incorporated in the power-state monopoly under the leadership of the individual communist parties and states. Only rarely and marginally there were seen, within the socialist block, other forms of organised physical education and those were usually only of the lowest organisational level. This article introduces the key events of the transformation of the former socialist Czechoslovak Union of Physical Education (ČSTV in Czech) in its turning point period of time. It tries to map the transformation trends and describe the individual organisational parts and processes, which significantly participated in the origin of the contemporary pluralistic shape of the organised physical education, which had to adapt to the new social conditions, market environment, business and professionalization of sport. The sport environment was among the first in the Czech Republic as well as in Slovakia that started to look for ways to a new institutional arrangement.
