Description A new diagnostic category, temper dysregulation with dysphoria (TDD) in children, is proposed within the Mood Disorders section of the manual DSM-V. The new criteria are based on a decade of research on severe mood dysregulation (SMD), and may help clinicians better differentiate children with these symptoms from those with bipolar disorder or oppositional defiant disorder. SMD/ TDD is much more common than pediatric BD, affecting about 3.2 percent of children, but no less disabling.
