Description Current biological and medical research has become into the stage, in which understanding of complex processes standing behind the phenotypic variability of investigated entities (bacterial strains, cell populations, individuals, diseases, or animal species) is unambiguously determined by knowledge of genome and proteome and mechanisms behind their mutual regulation and interactions. Modern high-throughput technologies, such as microchips or new generation sequencing methods, produce a high amount of complex data, which requires warehousing and analysis with application and development of special bioinformatics tools and statistical methodologies. This consists particularly in continuous improvement of these technologies, which represents a permanent challenge for many disciplines, namely bioinformatics and biostatistics. This article aims to provide a short overview of current trends in the genomic data analysis in light of bioinformatics. The article also briefly discusses the accessibility of the modern technologies in current clinical practice and research.
