Description | Book deals with the phenomenon of so-called artistic photography in the late 19th and early 20th cent., closely connected with the circle of Czech-German amateur photographers associated in local clubs. This extensive field of visual culture overreached borders in the geographic sense, and was therefore connected with both Czech and German history, transgressing at the same time imaginary frontiers between so-called "low" and "high" art. The book highlights the theme of lay and artisitc photography in art history in general and in the history of photography, analysing also traditional stereotypes and uncritically accepted constructs. |
