Description | The article deals with the history of introducing photography in natural sciences, with special focus on the Central European context and the personality of Karel Absolon, who was one of enthusiastic promoters and users of photography as picture medium in the field of science. In the late 19th century photography underwent great development from the point of view of its technology as well as social impact. Since then the photographic medium has been applied in many research disciplines, mainly naturla science. Around 1900 a new term - scientific photography - appears; it has the capacity to mediate phenomena transgressing the limits of the human eye abilities, as for instance radio or infrared radiation. |
