Description Environmental modification is one of traditional warfare strategies - since antiquity enemy fields had been burnt down or sown with salt. The evolution of modern techniques (defoliation, artificially earthquakes, weather manipulations) allowed more widespread modifications comparable in their destructive power to other weapons of mass destruction. Consequently an antiproliferation agreement (ENMOD) was signed in late 1970s. The goal of this article is to describe current state-of-art evnironmental modification techniques usable for military purposes. Except meteorological and geophysical weapons we deal also with selective mycoherbicides, defoliants etc. As in other weapon cathegories we can see similar trend for limited power and higher accuracy. The article brings also samoe thoughts on perspective of these technniques in everchanging security environment of 21st century - some specific attributes are unique and similar outcomes are not achievable by other means, on the other hand there are many problems concerning possible deployment of these weapons.
