Description The paper focuses on issues of international cooperation in criminal matters, to ensure the rights of the accused to a fair trial, which includes among others the right to counsel, right to information and the right to interpretation and translation. It is essential to ensure special protection to certain groups of defendants, especially juveniles. The difference between the age limits of criminal liability in the EU is very important for the international cooperation. Then we have to point out the particular variety of a right to counsel and the possibility of waiver of the right of juveniles. Conclusion of the paper includes a brief summary of the changes in the field of international cooperation under the Lisbon Treaty
