Description The development of Web 2.0 and social theories of new media offer an array of questions and expectations connected to the constantly evolving new media milieu. The paper addresses this fact and discusses the possibilities of interconnection of old and new media. The potential for their use is indicated, which has been brought by the latest information technologies in relation to the users. The role of Web 2.0 in civic activism is also pointed out. The above mentioned is supported with examples. In conclusion, it is considered what challenges can result from this development for the cultivation of media literacy.
