Description Ticks belong among the widest blood sucking arthropods in nature. The most often transmitted diseases caused by ticks in Europe are Lyme borreliosis (LB) and tick encefalitis. Monitoring the prevalence of ticks in two localities placed in different parts of the city Brno - Pisárky and Zamilovaný hájek (ZH) - started in the year 2010. The aim of the study was to compare prevalence of Bbsl and activity of ticks in two recreational localities which were often visited by inhabitants of the city Brno and to follow up the risk of infection in the year 2011 and to define critic months. Emphasis was placed mainly on the differences for the same procedure. In the years 2010 and 2011 ticks were collected by method called flagging during one hour in regular week intervals. Subsequently ticks were examined by method density field microscopy (DFM) for the prevalence of pathogenic spirochetes. Positive samples obtained by DFM were examined by method PCR for identification of Bbsl. : Statistic analysis confirmed dependence of activity of ticks on the air temperature in both localities. It was found that the positivity of ticks was higher in the locality Zamilovaný hájek (17 %). In Pisárky the positivity was significantly lower (7%). The critic month in terms of activity of ticks was June in both localities when the number of ticks in that month was 151 in Pisárky and 211 in ZH. The highest exposure of people to ticks was on 27 th June in Pisárky when the number of ticks was 59 individuals per hour and on 2 nd June with the number of 74 individuals in ZH. The highest probability of infection by Bbsl occured in June and in August in Pisárky (13 positive ticks) and in May in ZH (28 positive ticks). Although these two localities are placed in the city Brno not far from each other (just 5,76 kilometres) prevalence and activity showed differences within one city.
