Description Comparison of functional outcome after unilateral cataract surgery with primary intraocular lens implantation or corrected by aphakic contact lens in children under 2 years of age, a prospective randomized study. In 69 children with unilateral congenital cataract was during their first two years conducted in 1995-2003 cataract extraction with posterior capsulorhexis and anterior vitrectomy . In first group of children were those with implanted soft acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) and the second group were corrected postoperatively by contact lens. All children have the same mode of pleoptic treatment with half-occlusion of the dominant eye. The final visual acuity and quality of binocular vision was statistically significantly better in the group of children with primary IOL implantation than in the contact lens corrected aphakia, but here there were often of secondary complications with reoperation.
