Honorary Doctorates conferred by MU

Masaryk University awards honorary doctoral degrees (Doctor honoris causa, abbreviated as dr. h. c.) to prominent figures - both Czech and foreign - whose contributions to the development of science, culture or art are internationally recognised. An honorary doctoral degree may be awarded for any of the branches of science cultivated at MU. Proposals for honorary doctorate nominations may be made either by the Rector or by the deans of individual faculties. Nominations are subsequently submitted for a vote by the MU Scientific Board.

Great Gold Medals of MU

The Great Gold Medal of MU is awarded to the most distinguished domestic and foreign representatives of public life in appreciation of their contributions to the development of democracy and advancement of humankind. Medal proposals may be made by the Rector and are subsequently submitted for a vote by the MU Scientific Board.

The Gold Medal of MU is awarded to excellent representatives of scientific, cultural or public life in appreciation of their outstanding contributions to the development of science, culture or art or to the development of Masaryk University itself. Medal proposals may be made by the Rector, vice-rectors, bursar, heads of university institutes, faculty deans and department heads. Nominations are subsequently submitted for a vote by the MU Scientific Board.

Silver Medals of MU

The Silver Medal of MU is awarded to leading figures in appreciation of their significant works, contributions to the reinforcement of the university's significance, cooperation with domestic and foreign institutions or the development of Masaryk University. Medal proposals may be made by the Rector, vice-rectors, bursar, heads of university institutes, faculty deans and department heads. Nominations are subsequently submitted for a vote by the MU Scientific Board.

Bronze Medals of MU

The Bronze Medal of MU is awarded to MU employees who have reached extraordinary results and contributed to the development of higher education and of Masaryk University. Proposals for the awarding of bronze medals are confirmed by the Rector.

Small Bronze Medals of MU

The Small Bronze Medal of MU is a souvenir presented to outstanding MU graduates, students, teachers and employees on significant occasions or to foreign visitors as tokens of appreciation, etc. Medal proposals are presented to the head of the Academic Affairs Office of the MU Rector's Office.

Roger Scruton Medal

The Roger Scruton Medal is an occasional award given on significant occasions. The award is normally given for contribution to the defence of human dignity and human rights, for outstanding performance in the field of international cooperation and promotion of MU's reputation abroad and for outstanding activities in the field of art and culture. The Rector decides on the award and the manner of awarding the medal on the proposal of the Vice-Rector, Dean or Director of an MU higher education institute.

Rector's Awards

The Rector's Awards are announced annually in several categories. They are presented in recognition of the activities of university students and employees. Award proposals are submitted by the heads of MU constituent parts, winners are selected by the Rector of MU.
