Research ethics assessment for large consortium projects (e.g. OP JAK)

23 Feb 2024

Large consortium projects (e.g. OP JAK) that cannot be submitted for standard ethics committee review as a whole due to their complexity, for which the funder does not require ethics committee approval at the time of submission of the project proposal to the call, and which are composed of multiple research projects, only some of which require ethics committee review, are submitted to the REC for preliminary review within the standard timeframe before submission to the competition (download the Request for Preliminary Review of a Project form).

This is a simplified form for identifying the fundamental ethical aspects of research.

In the case of projects with several thematically or methodologically different research intentsions, it is necessary to submit the Application for Preliminary Project Review form separately for each research project.

Only those research projects that will be (co-)solved within the consortium at MU are submitted for preliminary examination and possible subsequent evaluation by the REC.

The pre-screening aims to catch ethically problematic intentions early and discuss them if necessary.

Preliminary screening does not result in project approval or any other official statement from the REC.

In the case of a consortium project, individual ethically relevant research projects will be assessed by the REC as sub-studies in a standard procedure based on submitting a complete REC Project Assessment Application and other related documents before their implementation.
