The project Traditional Forms of Rural Trade in Moravia and Silesia in the 18th and 19th Centuries should identify basic mechanisms of the commodity exchange between the rural and provincial producers and consumers in the pre-industrial period. It will focus on the individual forms of fairs (weekly, annual, grain, cattle), barter and various forms of itinerant trade in the Moravian and Silesian regions. Attention will be paid not only to their basic economic mechanisms but also to the role that they play in social and spiritual culture of the local people. An integral part of the project is the description of development tendencies during two centuries (when new economic and social phenomena intensively penetrated into Moravian and Silesian rural areas) and the description of specific features of barter that differed in the individual regions. Historical, ethnographical and other materials will be udes and mutually combined; the methods of historical and ethnographical research will be applied during the project´s realisation. Contribution of the project also lies in the elaboration and publication of information contained in so far almost unknown statistical source Ergänzungs-Tabelle. The outcome of the research will be published in a monograph that will also bring a typology of the ascertained phenomena within the frame of gathered results.
