Teachers’ Perceptions of Geography and Geography Teaching

Within the proposed project we would like to undertake a large-scale study to determine Czech
teachers’ perceptions of geography and geography teaching which will elaborate on ideas that
emerged in the robust body of mostly qualitative research. We are aiming at validating a classification of teachers’ perceptions on a representative sample of about 500 Czech lower
secondary geography teachers as a result of random sampling on a school-basis. A questionnaire survey will be conducted. To the authors’ knowledge, there are no published
representative large-scale studies examining geography teachers’ perceptions of geography and
geography teaching existing so far. On that account this project strives to contribute to the
international literature by providing both a relevant and valid research tool and original findings.
Moreover, it enables a comparison of Czech teachers’ perceptions of geography and geography
teaching to those of other countries with regard to different focus groups (mainly pre-service
teachers). The outcomes of the project are 3 articles in WOS/SCOPUS journals.
