The project involves 6 topics which have been opened to research by applicants experiments in the last years: 1) research on the incidence of bacteriocinogeny among strains of the newly acknowledged species of Escherichia and subspecies of Klebsiella. 2) for a closer comprehension of successive steps in the action of colicins E1-E9, research on the relation between their binding on susceptible bacteria and their inhibitive action. 3) investigation into physico-chemical, biological and molecular paramete rs of a new type of colicin, colicin 4. 4) for comparative analysis of binding of colicins E1-E3 onto their respective epitopes in the receptor protein BtuB, quantification of effects of its modifications with specific amino acid reagents. 5) investigati on of the incidence of colicinogeny among E. coli strains present in a healthy colon and in a colon with cancer. 6) as, in some genera, a production of "corpuscular bacteriocins" was found by applicant, studies of their ultrastructure and screening of fu
