The aim of the project is to test the hypothesis of "dynamic equilibrium". In its conception, the Czech Republic does not experience the emergence of distinctive patterns of socio-economic status attainment (i.e. social mobility) in the long term. Despite changes in the political order (socialism, post-socialism, global capitalism), the process of social reproduction has been subject to only short-term fluctuations since the 1970s. The present project aims 1) to review the stability of social mobility, i.e. the process of formation of the objective dimension of social inequalities, using an appropriate methodological approach; 2) to explain the unchanging mechanisms of social mobility in the Czech Republic (comparatively with the V4 countries). Previous analyses have mapped this development but have not explained it. Our primary aim is to explain the specific social mechanisms that have led to the absence of more substantial changes in social reproduction. Based on secondary analyses of large datasets and using contemporary historical sources, it will be possible to substantiate the research team's assumption that enforced social engineering interventions do not lead to long-term effects on the mechanisms of social reproduction.
