The definition of the depositional architecture of the foreland basin during its peculiar evolutional period is the principal aim of the project. The subdivision of the fill of the basin into individual elements will be based mainly on sedimentologicalstudies of the outcrops and drill holes. Recognition of lithofacies and depositional systems, understanding of their internal relationship, evolution and position in time and space will help to recognise the ruling phenomena (relative sea level changes,tectonics, sediment supply, morphology) of the basin architecture. High resolution sequence stratigraphy of the basin will be produced. New detailed data will be add to the general model of foreland basins (extensional vs. compresional stages, thrustloading and migration vs. forebulge behaiour, etc.). Distinction of the broader (regional) and local factors of the basin configuration will produce further data to the geodynamic model of the area under study during Neogene.
