This project examines the role of behavioural interventions and mechanisms in sustainable transport policy, with particular emphasis on how behavioural insights can effectively promote sustainable mobility choices. The traditional understanding of transport behaviour as purely rational decision-making based on price and travel time is increasingly being extended to include behavioural factors such as social norms, habits, and contextual influences. Given the fragmented state of research and persistent empirical gaps in this domain – especially regarding nudging in transport research – the dissertation aims to address underexplored dimensions of transport behaviour and behavioural interventions across multiple levels: behavioural outcomes, target segments, contextual moderators, economic valuations, and temporal persistence. Through experimental research and a systematic literature review, the project seeks to strengthen conceptual and methodological foundations while providing actionable insights for evidence-based transport policies aimed at reducing emissions through behaviour change.
