HumAMI aims to strengthen the European AI ecosystem by advancing human-inspired advanced machine intelligence and by establishing a robust Physical AI framework. Physical AI refers to AI that operates within and interacts with real-world physical systems such as machines, robots and human-centric cyber-physical systems. The HumAMI Physical AI framework enables physical systems or embodiments to perceive, learn, reason and act in the real world with humans-in-the-loop by integrating energy-efficient, on-device embedded AI processing and autonomous, goal-oriented agentic AI solutions. The HumAMI Physical AI framework will enable disruptive innovation, facilitate cooperation, and promote the industrial adoption of AI technology in real-world applications while addressing the growing vertical demands for adaptability, generalizability, explainability, trustworthiness, resilience, and sustainability. In addition, the HumAMI framework explicitly aligns with the European AI´s commitment to ethical AI and societal well-being.
HumAMI aims to propel European AI leadership through three strategic pillars: open science (openAMI), focused on the development of Physical AI-enabling innovative disruptive technologies (IDTs) adhering to the vertical demands; cooperation (coopAMI), fostering EU-wide collaboration for integrated technology solutions (ITS); and industrial adoption (adoptAMI), by validating IDTs and ITSs via real-world technology demonstrators in all six ECS key application areas of mobility, energy, digital industry, health, agrifood and digital society. The HumAMI initiative will significantly enhance European industrial competitiveness, promote the development of ethical AI, and secure Europe's leadership in the global Physical AI landscape, balancing technological advancement with core societal values.
