The long-term aim of the BEAMS project is to feed the pipeline of future talent for digital and advanced manufacturing industries. Children, especially girls and pupils from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, need interventions at a young age to dispel negative stereotypes regarding technical career paths and to plant positive perceptions of science, engineering, and technology.
Our project will provide additional curriculum-linked classroom activities and lesson plans that empower teachers to run an innovative design challenge in the classroom. A core component of the project is to support the training of primary school teachers in the field of laser engraving and cutting technology, the development of specialized pedagogical materials, and the implementation of a competition for students (aged 8–11). This challenge will focus on 2D/2.5D vector design and the practical application of laser technology, particularly in the context of sustainability and the circular economy.
