Description This work has been put together within the standard grant research project No GAP408/10/0363 entitled “The Development of Private Law in the Territory of the Czech Republic”. The authors have attempted to fill up the gap on the field of a complex research in the history of private law. They focused mainly on the development as from the 18th century, when under the influence of natural law theories, the distinction between private and public law was getting again more important and when the modern codifications had been launched, among which the most crucial was the General Civil Code (ABGB) of 1811. With respect to the limits placed on extent of the work, the authors tried to research the development of private law in both political and economic context and according to particular branches of law, into which private law had gradually divided itself (civil law, family law, commercial law, labor law and other branches of law connected with the aforementioned ones).
