Description Its a manufacturing process. Discontinual technology process is based on a susbstitution reaction of chlorine atom in 1-chloro-3,3-dimethylbutan-2-one by the action of cyanide anion in methanol solution. Formation of an undesirable oxirane by-product (20-35 %) is eliminated by an addition of a catalytic amount of iodide (Finkelstein catalytic route) and the target product is obtained in min. yield 95 % and purity min. 99 %.
