Description Human abilities don’t exist in the real word, so it’s not possible to measure them directly. We can measure just their expressions and then estimate their true “scores”. Moreover, measurement of giftedness is more difficult. Talent has many aspects, at least general and specific abilities, motivation, creativity and there is more than one definition of it. If the operationalization of giftedness is not clear, the measurement must be even more complicated. As the giftedness are “multifaceted”, it’s not possible to estimate one single cut-score for identify gifted children. The procedure must be more complex. This paper focuses the nature of psychological measurement and the differences (and similarities) of school exams and psychological assessment. We will indicate the foundation of assessment of giftedness, which methods are needed, and to which procedures is better to avoid. At the end we will speak about data from our initial research of our math ability test for assessment. We explain what the giftedness could be, and what it couldn’t (contrary to general believes).
