Description The court of Emperor and King Sigismund has long attracted the attention of specialists, due to its number of courtiers, its long and continuous existence (1387-1437) and also because of its importance as a centre for decision making. Even though Sigismund's court has been the subject of numerous studies, conference papers and catalogues, these have generally focused on specific topics and, as such, a complex synthesis of this noteworthy social organism is still lacking. The reason for this perhaps lies not only in the extensive language skills which such a task requires, but also in the need to conduct archival research in depositories across Europe. This conference, organized by a team working on a project on Emperor Sigismund's allies in Bohemia (Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University Brno, Czech Republic) seeks to address this issue and hopes to provide at least a partial solution to the problem by placing particular emphasis on the structural and prosopographical aspects of this topic. Our first focus will be the form of political communication not just between the emperor, his council and his chancery, or his courtiers and coteries, but also with the people that were not part of these structures. We will also concentrate on the social structure of the court, on the complexity of the relations between the courtiers and on the processes at the court. Last but not least we will discuss the individual careers and the different groups of courtiers or coteries from a prosopographical point of view.
