Developing Discourse Competence in EFL Academic Writing through an Online Course

Description The aim of the paper is to introduce analytical procedures for assessing cohesive relations in student EFL academic writing and discuss the results of experimental treatment consisting in participation in a 100% online learning course. After the treatment, both reiteration and conjunction relations were used more appropriately/accurately. The overall frequency of successful uses increased by 25 percent in the case of reiteration relations and nearly 24 percent in the case of conjunction. Moreover, greater variety in reiteration and conjunction devices was achieved.
