Description Abstract. This paper provides a short introduction into the sources for the history of the Seven Banners of the Altai Urianhais in the periods of the late Qing Dynasty, Mongolian Autonomy and the first decades of the Mongolian People's Republic and the Chinese Republic. Through a case study of the noble clan of governors of the banner of the Baruun amban, as well as a detailed case study of the wedding of Jamiyangjab noyan, I try to point out the importance of the oral sources and a possible reconstruction based on an approach utilizing both the oral and archive sources in the description of the local history of Altai Urianhais.
