Description Between 2013 and 2017, water samples of various origins from the whole Czech Republic region were tested for the presence of human norovirus (NoV GI and NoV GII). Two isolation methods, filtration method using negatively charged membrane filters and direct organic flocculation method, were used to concentrate the viral particles. Isolation of nucleic acid was performed using magnetic separation method. Detection of the presence of genetic material allowed real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. In total, 149 samples of water were examined, of which 40 were declared as positive for the presence of NoV GI and NoV GII. Drinking water samples were in most cases epidemiologically related to the occurrence of gastroenteritis.
