Description In the article, the authors provide an overview of vine varieties cultivated in Moravia and Bohemia, as described by sources from the Middle Ages to the mid-19th century, when systematic ampelography was born. The focus of the research was on the period between the 16th and 19th centuries, when the professional agricultural and thus viticultural literature (Latin, bohemophone and germanophone) began to be available. The analysis shows several periods in which different varieties dominated (e.g. in the 18th century Riesling prevailed in the Moravian vineyards, whereas in the 19th century it was Grüner Veltliner).
