Description Practical knowledge in the form of regional excursions around the Czech Republic and as part of excursions to Prague and its surroundings, alternatively with a trip to Dresden, is an important part of training future history teachers at the Department of History of the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University. Complex excursions are most often realized, in some cases thematic excursions. Emphasis is placed on education for cultural and historical heritage. Excursions contribute to the consolidation and development of emotional ties to the discussed historical curriculum, enable easier reconstruction of historical events, and contribute to the development of patriotism and aesthetic feeling. During walks, excursions and other extracurricular forms of teaching, several teaching methods are applied, of which interview, explanation, demonstration, observation, individual work of individuals or groups, work with a plan and a map are of great importance. In recent years, the project method has become increasingly important. Practical knowledge through visits to museums, galleries, monuments, technical monuments, etc. and their inclusion in education is considered a very desirable and effective way to deepen students‘ knowledge, for students they are the best classroom. The excursion is also evaluated by the students of the Department of History as a very beneficial part of the preparation for the teaching profession.
